Dental Implants abroad - tips to aid recovery following dental implant surgery

Friday, 05 July 2013 19:51

A dental implant is an artificial tooth. Dental implants will hugely improve your quality of life. Not only will the appearance improve, you will also be able to chew all foods without any pain or discomfort.

You can lead your life as normal following the placement  of dental implants, however there are a few important aftercare tips that are necessary following the procedure. These will speed up the healing process and enable you to make the most of your dental treatment abroad experience and enjoy your dental holiday in the beautiful city of Budapest.

Take some rest  Remember you have undergone a surgical procedure. We suggest that you retire to your hotel and rest, preferably lying down for at least 1 hour immediately following the dental implant procedure.

Medication  Your dental implantologist will give you prescribed pain medication and antibiotics following your dental implant surgery. You will also be given an ice pack. Many people suffer with very little pain, however we suggest you take medication as prescribed to you. The ice pack can help prevent swelling occurring following your dental implant surgery.

Use lukewarm salty water to rinse your mouth  Salt is well known for its healing properties. Rinse your mouth at least two to three times a day following your dental implant surgery. Mix one teaspoon of salt in a cup of lukewarm water. This will help speed up the healing process.

Gently brush your teeth   Although you have just received dental implants, it is still of ultimate importance to brush your teeth morning and evening. Food particles must be kept away to prevent infection, so we suggest using a soft bristle tooth brush. Apply circular motions and be gentle with the area where the stitches have been placed. Rinse your mouth with salty water after brushing to prevent bacteria and speed up the healing process.

Eating foods  It is advisable to eat soft foods for approx. five days after the dental implant procedure. This will prevent pressure being applied to your teeth and gums and will also aid digestion. Our partner hotels cater specifically for our dental implant patients providing special ‘soft foods’ options on their menus. Yogurts, fresh fruit, purees, puddings, vegetables are all foods which can be consumed following the placement of your dental implants. We advise our patients not to smoke for at least five days, following the placement of dental implants. It is also advisable to avoid dairy products for five days.

Give your system time to heal and take proper nutrients to speed up your healing process. Keep your mouth as clean as possible. You can look forward to leading a fuller life, your ability to chew will be restored and you be smiling like never before.

Do you need Dental treatment -  Is fear holding you back ? (Porcelain Crowns, Dental Implants, Porcelain Bridges, Periondontal Treatment, Veneers, Composite Fillings, Dentures ) Dental Plus Ireland can help you. Why not combine a city break in beautiful Budapest and avail of the relaxing and soothing environment in our state of the art clinic and have all your dental treatment abroad with full aftercare provided here in Ireland.

You are not alone. At least 60% of the population in Ireland suffer from dental anxiety either, before their dental visit or during the visit. The highest level of anxiety recorded is when people are sitting in the waiting area and then immediately prior to going into the dentist surgery. Dental Plus Ireland representing Kreativ Dental Clinic in Budapest, are highly experienced in this area, dealing with patients who suffer from high levels of anxiety and we have much empathy for nervous patients, so much so that the clinic have installed computer tablets on the chairs in the reception area. Apart from being an added accessory in any dental surgery for people who need to catch up on emails etc. it is a good distraction for nervous patients, so much, that some patients have told us, that they had actually forgotten where they were.

Our clinic treats 1000’s of patients with dental anxieties/phobias. Many have not attended a dentist for many years and require large restorative treatments, dental implants, dental crowns and bridges, periodontal treatment, extraction  and a wide range of other restorative and conservative treatment. You will not receive ‘patch-up work’ at the clinic. Our patients will receive dental treatments which will last a lifetime, with good oral care and hygiene.

The empathy from our dentists, our patient care manager and all staff at the clinic, goes beyond their call of duty to help patients with any fears, anxieties and concerns. This accompanied with the wonderful relaxing reception area, where you can forget all your anxieties while watching and counting the fish in our very large aquarium.

People who may have had a bad experience at the dentist in the past are more likely to have a phobia, as are people who associate the dental surgery with extreme pain. If we have experienced extreme pain we will always want to avoid it.

At Kreativ Dental Clinic, we use The Wand System, this is essentially a computer-controlled dental injection. The flow rate of the local anaesthetic is controlled by a computer. This means that the injection is guaranteed to be slow and steady and therefore comfortable. At Kreativ Dental clinic we pride ourselves in pain free dentistry.

Dentistry should not be painful. When it is invasive, our dentists will always use pain relief to make the experience as comfortable as possible. Whether you are receiving dental implants, dental crowns, dental bridges, extractions, veneers, dentures, root canal treatment pain relief is of the essence.

1.     Agree on a hand signal with your dentist so that if you do become anxious they can indicate for the dental treatment to stop for a moment. Our dentist will always suggest this prior to treatment beginning.

2.     Ask your dentist to provide regular reassurance and explanations about what he is doing at each stage during the procedure, eg dental crown/bridge/implant being placed or that they have been placed.

3.     Ask can you be allowed to handle the suction instrument if possible.

4.     Maybe ask a friend or family member to accompany you to the appointment.

5.     Ask for extra time for your appointments.

6.     Maybe bring some music and headphones to your next appointment.

7.     Focus on breathing regularly.

8.     Above all, communicate with your dentist. Our dentists do understand your fears and want to help you.

Why not combine a city break in beautiful Budapest and avail of the relaxing and soothing environment in our state of the art clinic and have all your dental treatment abroad with full aftercare provided here in Ireland.
